Circle Economy and INCIEN partnered with the Czech capital to carry out a Circle City Scan, creating Circular Prague—a visual roadmap designed to identify priority strategies and kick-start the city’s circular economy.
The city gained insights into the strengths and challenges of its local economy, which clarified the key focus areas for circular transformation.
Prague’s material flows were mapped, revealing the biggest opportunities for circular action.
An action plan was created together with local authorities and businesses.
A network of re-use points was established, processing around 4,000 pre-loved items in its first year.
The city set an ambitious target to separate 70% of municipal waste.
Prague became the first Czech city to implement household food waste collection through the 'Třídím gastro' project. By 2022, the city had sorted a record 178 tonnes of food waste, a 246% increase compared to 2021.
A dedicated circular economy committee and steering group were formed to drive progress.
Although Prague was eager to embrace circularity, it lacked direction, evidence, and a clear action plan to guide its journey. Without a structured approach, the city risked missing opportunities and slowing down its transition.
Through the Circle City Scan, Circle Economy and INCIEN provided Prague with the insights it needed to act decisively. By combining material flow analysis with stakeholder engagement, we created Circular Prague: a strategy that turned data into action, enabled collaboration, and laid the foundation for long-term progress.

Prague’s story shows how data and collaboration can set a city on the path to circularity. Want to map your city’s circular future?
