Over the last few years companies with high volumes of dead-stock or waste materials as well as collectors and recyclers of those materials have approached Circle Economy with questions regarding their business needs. These companies have also expressed interest in the possibility of creating circular solutions. Companies are seeking a safe and clean way to dispose of their unused materials, and collectors or recyclers are looking for continuous, quality feedstock. In response to this, Circle Economy developed a tool to connect the supply and demand needs of these parties while enabling them to trade their materials in a safe, online environment.
In a circular economy, inputs for the production of products come from recyclable materials, currently known as waste. The goal of such an economy is to create a closed loop value chain and move toward a zero waste industry – where waste is seen as a resource that is cycled throughout the system continuously. Circle Economy has strived to create an easy to use, online platform that streamlines the flow of “waste” from suppliers to be reused as resource inputs in other markets.
“Unable to avoid minimum order requirements established by production plants, we always have excess fabric leftover or are looking for ways to purchase only the amount we need. The Circle Market is a great alternative to discarding unused resources by providing the opportunity to buy from or sell left-over fabrics to other small fashion labels.”
– Get Lazy, German fair trade fashion brand
Circle Market is an online marketplace that facilitates the trade of recyclable materials between market parties. By doing so, it aims to provide the best possible recovery, reuse, resale of resources and to become a catalyst for a zero waste industry. By using Circle Market, members can discover hidden value, find trusted partners, and contribute to the transition towards a circular economy.
“Currently there is not a solution comparable to the Circle Market in the United Kingdom. As a global marketplace it can provide our company with a powerful opportunity to buy and sell on a global scale while building new networks.”
– BTR LTD (Bristol Textile Recyclers), Bristol based collecting and sorting company
Circle Economy is currently piloting Circle Market with members of its Circle Textiles program by facilitating the exchange of post-industrial, pre-consumer or post-consumer recyclable textiles. With insights gained from this pilot program the tool will be continuously improved upon and will ultimately be accessible to a broader audience, with the goal of expanding to other industries and sectors.
