Towards a circular office with Desso and Desko

At Circle Economy, our organisation has grown a lot in a relatively short amount of time. The result: an office that was no longer large enough to accommodate all our employees. In the beginning we tried to catch up with this internal growth by scavenging together all our furniture; either borrowed from others or some even found alongside the street. As a circular, young, and dynamic team this initially fit our way of thinking. However, as we outgrew our first office and needed a new one, we also needed one that would be qualitatively better furnished. The health and wellbeing of our employees is important to us, and therefore we decided to search for a more ergonomic workspace.

Since April 2014 we have been talking to Michael Kuiper from Desko, one of our members, to see how the circular economy can be applied to the office furniture sector. Together with Desko we are looking at where the (business) opportunities lie for a circular business model. This led to a cooperation in which Desko would supply our office with furnishings. Besides the used parquet floor and the office furniture that was delivered for our houseboat at De Ceuvel, Desko also recently supplied us with furnishings for our new office at the Nieuwe Herengracht. We now have everything from carpet tiles (from Desso - also a member), ergonomic desks, Desko office chairs, bean bags, meeting chairs, tables, to bar chairs. All of this will ensure that we can comfortably go about our daily tasks at our new office to accelerate the transition to the circular economy!
