“Happiness is a place between too little and too much” Finnish ProverbThrough the Circular Textile Program, Circle Economy is at the forefront of new innovations and developments in the field of circular fashion and textiles. During the summer months the Circular Textiles team have been working with Sitra, to produce a report on ‘Service Based Business Models and Circular Strategies for Textiles’. The core purpose of this report is to inspire Finnish textile companies to identify promising opportunities and successfully develop new business models, based on circular principles. Additionally, it will be the launching pad for a series of lectures and workshops with the Finnish Textile Industry, on sustainable innovation and servitization. The research consisted of three parts;

  • A global scan of ±250 different business concepts in the field of servitization and circularity.
  • Ten deep dive cases, which represent the most promising and innovative service-based business models & circular strategies today (GStar Raw Recycled, Filippa K, Nudie Jeans and more).
  • A business model framework, which acts as a lens through which we can categorize the different models that emerged from the research.

The report offers a clear business rationale for adopting sustainable business models, an overview of key drivers and barriers, and recommendations with regard to the suitability of the different types of business models for certain markets and product types. It exposes fresh and exciting insights that are of particular interest to fashion brands looking to engage in this topic in a meaningful and impactful way. Circle Economy and Sitra hope that it will advance the growing movement towards value-based business and access over ownership models in textiles, to further drive the transition towards a circular economy. The textiles team are available to present and discuss these findings and to explore what service-based models or circular strategies can mean for your business.
